#SocEnt: Your Own Place Needs You!

Your Own Place Volunteer Tenancy Mentoring

This amazing NESTA funded project will reduce youth homelessness in your local community but not only that it will teach the employee mentors new skills they can use in their current workplace or help them In to a new exciting career. For housing providers it is a win, win, win scenario. Not only will their staff gain new transferable skills and feel more loyalty to their employer but brand reputation in the community will increase and by mentoring young people to maintain their tenancy it will reduce eviction costs.

Mentors undergo 2 days of inspirational training covering listening/questioning skills, using an asset based approach and child/vulnerable adult protection. They undertake a DBS check, a short interview and provide 2 references and if all is satisfactory they are matched to a local young person in need of support during their move to independence. They will then meet their mentee once a week for a catch up and a coffee and together find ways to help the young person achieve their goals.
