Mid Summer Birthday Celebration and Launch for Leading Lives

****PRESS RELEASE****

Leading Lives, who provides a range of support services for adults with learning disabilities and elderly people across Suffolk has marked its first birthday as  an independent social enterprise with a county wide day of celebrations, which  also doubled up as the official 'launch' event for the organisation.   Customers, staff, family carers and other invited guests all joined in the events across Suffolk.

All the special celebrations were devised by staff and customers using the service,  around a mid Summer theme.  All were designed to create a day to remember for customers and provided an opportunity to thank family carers and other partners for the support they have given the organisation over the past 12 months.

In Lowestoft, shoppers on the High Street were treated to a flash mob theatre performance.  Fabba, the Lowestoft based, theatre company for adults with learning disabilities dressed up to act out scenes from their forthcoming performance of The Brother Grim at the Seagull Theatre later in the Summer.  The Venue Group also performed a dance routine.

Celebrations took on a festival theme in Ipswich with a 'Glamping Party' featuring live music, festival food, festival tattoos, an ice cream van and a special festival tented village.

Other events around the county included a Family Fun Fete at Leading Lives Short
Break Respite Unit at Cathedral View in Bury, a High Tea and day of garden  games and Shakespeare in the Park, whilst in Sudbury, festivities took on a  Grease theme at a 1950's Summer Fete.  In Felixstowe there was Tea and Strawberries at the Community Hub and a Tea Dance at the Wellbeing Service for older people. Hats were the order of the day in Saxmundham, where there will be a hat competition followed by Punch and Judy and afternoon tea.

Tony Carr, Managing Director, Leading Lives said: "It is a year since we formed
Leading Lives following the transfer of this service from Suffolk County  Council and we are now one of the biggest independent social enterprises in the  East of England.  This has given us a real opportunity to build our new organisation around providing personalised, high quality support to enable our customers to live the life they choose.  We have had so much good will and support from our customers, family carers and professional colleagues, in our first year, that we felt it was really important to recognise how far we have come in a year.  It's also an opportunity to thank our staff who have embraced all the changes of the last 12 months.  We didn't officially launch last year as there was so much to do setting up the new company so these celebrations aredoubling up as our birthday party and our official launch."

Leading Lives provides a comprehensive range of services to over 1200 adults with  learning disabilities, enabling them to live the life they choose, including  young people in transition, those with physical, multiple complex needs, autism  and older people and to family carers across Suffolk, through community hubs,  supported living, short break services and community support.  It also operates two Wellbeing Centres in Felixstowe and Stowmarket for older people.
