Francis Maude, Minister for the Cabinet Office and Paymaster General, visited Community Dental Services (CDS) in Bedford yesterday.
Francis Maude was visiting the East Midlands on Monday 19 January 2015 to champion charities, volunteers and social enterprises and took the opportunity to meet the team and patients at the Dental Care Centre, Bedford.
The Minister met Alison Reid - Chief Executive, Helen Paisley - Operations Director, Michael Cranfield - Clinical Director, Anne McDonald - Assistant Clinical Director, Steve Davies - Specialist in Special Care Dentistry and Nicola Blake - Senior Dental Nurse who all explained about the work of CDS.
He also took the time to meet one of the patients, Harvey Harrison aged 12 from Bedford, who was booked in for a regular check-up and confided in the Minister that he quite liked his dentist, Anne McDonald, as she was 'very chatty and explained what was going on.'
Alison Reid, CDS's Chief Executive, said
"It was a pleasure to welcome the Minister to the Dental Care Centre and share with him the work we do at CDS with some of the most vulnerable in society, as well as the high quality and specialist dental services we provide. As a champion of Social Enterprises and not for profit organisations, Francis was very interested in the challenges we encounter as well as the very real benefits we deliver to the communities in which we operate. He was most impressed with the passion of the team, calming environment we have created for our patients and the fully equipped mobile dental unit we use to deliver services to people who find it difficult to travel to our clinics."
