Careers workshop by Realsie Futures takes off at Wattisham

Tuesday 15th September, 2015 - Careers advisers from Realise Futures held a careers workshop today at Wattisham Flying Stationdesigned for non-military family members who are looking for employment opportunities.

Realise Futures Careers Solutions - which is the largest provider of careers advice services in the Eastern Region - held the two-hour group workshop for a group of women who are thinking about returning to work, and wanted some tips on the local jobs market.

The workshop took place at The Hive community centre in Valley Road, Wattisham.

Margaret Beardsell, Wattisham's welfare co-ordinator, said: "Soldiers tend to move around the country as they are posted to different roles, which can make it hard for family members to find jobs. We are keen to support our families and hope that the Realise Futures workshop has helped develop their skills to improve the chances of finding employment."

Subjects covered included reviewing and supporting CV development, identifying strengths and skills and exploring careers opportunities and looking at career progression.

Realise Futures' careers advisers work in partnership with agencies from the private, statutory and voluntary sectors - including Job Centre Plus, local and county councils, the NHS, the police and the Army - as well as further education and adult and community learning training providers.

Deb Gibson, Regional Operations Manager for Realise Futures Careers Solutions said: "We focus on helping people to identify their strengths and skills and help them explore their careers options, identify courses and training schemes, help them understand the local job market, and refer them to other organisations they might find of use in their job search.

"We can also help them identify if they might be eligible for funding for learning, and how to access this funding."
